| Anybody here ever heard of the Phoenix? "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," which is currently doing good box office around the world, is the rebirth of a movie franchise, born in 1968 with the very good movie, "Planet of the Apes," starring Charlton Heston. The world saw the franchise burn, die, and turn to ash, with that 2001 artistic wasteland of a movie, now called with little affection by movie fans, the mistake, the "Planet of the Apes," directed by Tim Burton. The 2011 reboot restores the franchise. "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," the 1hr 50min, rated PG-13, flick, takes the ideas of the source material, a 1963 novel by Pierre Boulle, and gives it a completely fresh and thinking man's take. It seems that maybe a few brain cells and dollars were spent thinking and working out the story, and the result is a very good action, science fiction, drama. Did I use the world drama? Yes, the movie has drama for those of us who like good story, and it has plenty of visual effects for those who like to see dazzle on the screen. For those who haven't seen it yet, here is the trailer.
